Encounter

Encounter // Train in truth

Encounter is our weekly worship gathering. Student-led music, prayer, and reading Scripture together begin the night. Then, we teach through an entire book of the Bible each semester. In 2016-2017, we’ll talk through the gospel of Matthew as a community.  Encounter is open to all students looking for Christian community in Bloomington. Our times of teaching are very unique… We believe that faith is best pursued in conversation. Our space is set up in a horseshoe and students are encouraged to read ahead, ask questions, and share thoughts or reflections from their lives.  It’s an active, energetic time. It is also a space where those who would rather listen than speak, who think deeply and quietly, rather than raise a hand, are welcome to be themselves. Our community is a spectrum of personalities and backgrounds that gathers every Thursday night at 8pm in our Campus House (1968 N. Jordan Avenue, on the corner of North Jordan and Fee Lane).

Community // Do life together

Christian Student Fellowship’s ministry hub is the Campus House, located on IU’s campus on the corner of Fee/N. Jordan. The Campus House is a great place to connect with others and build relationships. It is also the location of Encounter, along with staff offices. Additionally, students may choose to live at the Campus House.

Small Groups

small group // ask the tough questions

Small groups should be a space where a wide spectrum of personalities, interests, backgrounds, experiences, and future opportunities can feel welcome and cared for. For that to happen, people need to know that they are known. More than that, they need to be invited to know those doing life alongside them. When we do this in community, we hear one another’s perspectives, questions, confusion, and clarity about life with God, as the people/children of God. We ask one another questions, we learn how to learn from one another, we bring connections and clarity to one another’s thinking, and we show one another how we live by faith in the God who has made himself known to us.

Serve

Serve // be a blessing

We acknowledge that we have been blessed with so much and that we have freely received grace and mercy from Jesus Christ. Therefore, we want to freely give and be a blessing to Jesus and others. We desire to serve the local community through service projects, serve globally on mission trips throughout the year, and to live a life of service as we see needs arise around us. We are also committed to blessing others with our giving throughout the world.
